For the 2024 SFJAZZ Gala honoring Grammy Award-winning vocalist Patti Austin, Andrew F. Scott was commissioned to create immersive visual environments that transformed the SFJAZZ Center into a multidimensional celebration of sound and light. These projections accompanied performances throughout the evening, responding to the emotional resonance of the music and enhancing the architectural features of Miner Auditorium.

“atmospheric and transformative.”

Blending archival images, abstract textures, and dynamic animations, Scott’s work paid tribute to Austin’s legacy by weaving together themes of memory, resilience, and performance. His approach emphasized visual storytelling as a form of homage, evoking both the personal and cultural significance of Austin’s career.

The visuals were synchronized with live music, creating an atmosphere of reverence and celebration. Executive Artistic Director Terence Blanchard highlighted the role of Scott’s visual design in shaping the evening’s mood, describing the projections as “atmospheric and transformative.”
